National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S)

As of early 2026, data indicate that 30 women and girls were violently killed in Canada, with ongoing, disproportionately high rates of violence against Indigenous women, who are 6.5 times more likely to be murdered than non-Indigenous women. Federal initiatives aim to reduce this, with targeted homicide rates below 5.07 per 100,000 for Indigenous women by 2028.  www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca +2
