Zonta Canada: International Day of the Girl Child – Oct 11
October 11 is the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to celebrating the voices and power of girls, championing their rights worldwide, and reflecting on the challenges they continue to face because of their gender.
Canada led the international proposal, following global advocacy by Plan International, to establish this day in 2012 to draw attention to the persistent inequalities and dangers that too many girls face around the world. The United Nations subsequently adopted a resolution to formally recognize this important date.
Across Canada and around the world, girls are making an impact and creating positive change in their communities and far beyond. They are leading the way as students, entrepreneurs, volunteers and activists, and proving that you are never too young to shape the future and improve the lives of others.

About Us
The Zonta Canada consists of the 22 Zonta clubs and the five districts in Canada united in advocating for rights in Canada to build a better world for women & girls. Zonta International’s mission is to build a better world for women and girls. It shall promote Zonta International’s vision of a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential, where women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, where no woman suffers from violence.

Zonta USA Caucus
ZONTA USA CAUCUS’s Mission is similar to Canada Caucus with action in the US Congress, its members and committees and by state legislatures. Take action in support of, or in opposition to, proposed or enacted legislation and executive orders and regulations that directly or indirectly impact the lives of women and girls. Promote women’s representation in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.
Whate Ribbon
Zonta Canada is currently working with White Ribbon to develop an Allyship between the two organizations. White Ribbon is a global movement to end gender-based violence and discrimination by engaging men and boys as allies.
Canadian Women’s Foundation
The Canadian Women’s Foundation is a national leader in the movement for gender equality in Canada. Through funding, research, advocacy, and knowledge sharing, they work to achieve systemic change. They support women, girls, and gender-diverse people to move out of violence, out of poverty, and into confidence and leadership. Zonta D4 has an MOU with CWF to develop and distribute the Signal for Help training for Zonta.

UN Women is the UN organization delivering programmes, policies and standards that uphold women’s human rights and ensure that every woman and girl lives up to her full potential.
What’s Zonta
Zonta is a leading global organization of individuals working together to build a better world for women and girls. There are 26,103 international members in 1,093 clubs from 32 Districts in 65 countries. There are various opportunities to be involved in global change at the club and district levels.
